In the fast-paced world of product development, it’s easy to get caught in a cycle that feels productive but actually stifles innovation and growth. We refer to this cycle as “The Evaluative Loop,” and it can become a comfort zone for many of us in teams.

However, there’s a more effective path to creating products that resonate deeply with users and drive impactful outcomes: generative research.

Join us for a panel event where we explore how to escape the evaluative loop and the power of generative research.

Whether you’re considering how to align your personal values with your research role or thinking about transitioning into the purpose-driven, social impact, or non-profit sectors, we’ve created this gathering with your goals in mind.

➡ Get your tickets

Description:

As part of Curiosity Tank’s User Research Expert Training Series, this session aims to inspire and educate applied researchers looking to make a substantial difference through their work. You’ll not only gain insights into merging your professional skills with impactful causes but also have the opportunity to connect, share, and grow with attendees who are interested in contributing to societal betterment. You’ll network, learn, and possibly find new directions or collaborations that align with your values and aspirations.

We’re thrilled to feature three panelists who have successfully landed roles, and are thriving in, their purpose-driven research:

  • Aesclinn Donohue, Human-Centered Designer, U.S. Department of Homeland Security
  • Fátima Gutiérrez Jhong, User Experience Researcher, Code for America
  • Graham Colby, Senior UX Researcher, Fable.

They’ll share their experiences in applying research to fulfill missions that range from enhancing democratizing access to technology and public safety to bringing inclusivity to UX research.

Takeaways:

  • Behind the Scenes of Purpose-Driven Research: Get an insider’s view on how applied research drives initiatives at organizations committed to social good.
  • Research Across Sectors: Unpack the similarities and differences between research in non-profits versus for-profit companies, highlighting unique challenges and opportunities.
  • Career Path Navigation: Discover practical tips for finding and securing research roles within the social sector, including how to make your application stand out.
  • What Employers Want: Learn about the key skills and attributes these teams seek in candidates for roles with a social impact focus.

Networking and Breakout Groups:

Beyond insights and inspiration, this session offers a unique opportunity to connect with like-minded professionals. Breakout groups will facilitate deeper attendee discussions and personal connections. We’ll also play “Research Bingo”, a fun networking activity. Attendees will have bingo cards with common and purpose-driven research experiences, will search for other attendees who have had those experiences, and identify people who have specific experiences attendees want to learn more about. It’s a light-hearted way to break the ice, share stories, continue conversations after the event, and potentially win a donation to their non-profit of choice!

This event isn’t just about learning from these purpose-driven researchers; it’s about building a community of researchers dedicated to leveraging their skills for a greater cause. Whether you’re actively seeking a shift towards more meaningful work or just curious about the possibilities, “From Data to Difference” will be engaging and informative.

Join us to network, explore, and maybe even discover the next step in your journey to merging user research with social impact.
