Interviews, click prototypes, explainer videos, concierge services – the list of validation techniques seems endless. But how well do they really work?

To find out, I’ll be sharing my experiences as a guest lecturer at Shenkar Collage from the early days of building Airtime. The session is open for everyone.I don’t offer a silver bullet, but I hope that sharing my lessons from running specific experiments will help you run yours more successfully.

So, what will we explore? Here are a few techniques I’ll be covering, along with insights into my processes:

  1. Discovery interviews
  2. Focus groups
  3. Opportunity scoring
  4. Surveys
  5. Explainer videos
  6. Concierge services
  7. LinkedIn message-fit campaigns

As UX Researchers and Designers, there are many important steps that take place before research even begins. Consider the people, processes, and strategies that are essential for successful user research.

This is where ResearchOps plays a vital role in driving research success. It provides the people, tools and processes needed to empower researchers in carrying out research and scaling the impact of insights across an organisation.

Join us for a webinar discussion where we will explore:

  • Setting up research operations. Discover unique methods to streamline your research processes, learn what constitutes a “good enough” setup, and understand the next steps once your operations are established.
  • Integrating research into strategy. Explore how to align research with the strategic goals of your business and get tips on building closer relationships with product managers and strategic leaders.
  • Democratisation of Research. Uncover the benefits and challenges of making research accessible across your organisation, learn best practices for effective research democratisation and learn why research should go beyond tactical needs and how to avoid being pigeonholed into tactical-only projects

No matter the size of your team or company, this webinar will provide the opportunity to learn practical strategies for success from industry experts 🚀

Listening deeply is a powerful skill. In this workshop you’ll learn to cut through the noise of your own mind to truly understand your customers’ needs. Elevate your understanding and establish deeper connections for impactful solutions.

If you are a researcher, a listening session is very different than an interview. Learn how to let the participant direct the conversation and how to encourage the participant to uncover a trio of concept types that provide the richness of understanding you need in your data.

About the teacher

Indi Youngresearch pioneer, book author and coach with 30 years of experience
Indi is a researcher who coaches, writes, and teaches about inclusive product strategy. Her work is rooted in the problem space where the focus is on people, not users. Indi pioneered opportunity maps, mental model diagrams, and thinking styles. Her way of approaching the problem allows teams to truly pay attention to people, without letting cognitive bias and assumptions creep in.

Indi has written three books, Practical Empathy, Mental Models and Time to Listen. She is at work on a book series, Assumptions Aside, that begins with listening and goes on to cover thinking styles and using opportunity maps to guide responsible design strategy. She builds knowledge and community via a series of live online advanced courses about the importance of pushing the boundaries of your perspective. She was one of the founders of Adaptive Path, the pioneering UX agency.

Drawing from a host of examples, Popperian epistemology, and very likely some unique off-the-cuff remarks, Jerry’s unique presentation style will engage and inform.

Welcome to CHI 2024!

The ACM (Association of Computing Machinery) CHI conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems is the premier international conference of Human-Computer Interaction.

CHI (pronounced “kai”) takes place in Honolulu, at the Hawaiʻi Convention Center on the island of Oʻahu, Hawaiʻi, USA from 11-16 May 2024, while also supporting remote attendance.

The conference embraces the theme of Surfing the World – reflecting the focus on pushing forth the wave of cutting-edge technology and riding the tide of new developments in human-computer interaction. The conference serves as a platform for researchers, practitioners, and industry leaders to share their latest work and ideas and to foster collaboration and innovation in the field. Attendees will Surf the World of technology by engaging in keynote speeches, panel discussions, workshops, and other interactive sessions focusing on the latest developments and trends in the field. The conference’s location, known for its beautiful beaches and world-class surf spots, adds a unique and inspiring setting for attendees to come together and exchange ideas to open global access to CHI. The CHI conference is the premier event in the field and Surfing the World represents its commitment to inviting everyone to explore and advance the frontiers of human-computer interaction.

It is with profound reflection that we offer up this Land Acknowledgement, acknowledging Hawaiʻi as an indigenous space whose original people are today identified as Kanaka ‘Ōiwi – Native Hawaiians. The ʻāina of Kaʻākaukukui on which we will gather is located in the ahupuaʻa of Waikiki, in the moku of Kona, on the mokupuni of Oʻahu, in the paeʻāina of Hawaiʻi. We recognize that her majesty Queen Liliʻuokalani yielded the Hawaiian Kingdom and these territories under duress and protest to the United States to avoid the bloodshed of her people. We further recognize that generations of indigenous Hawaiians and their knowledge systems shaped Hawaiʻi in a sustainable way that allows us to enjoy her gifts today. For this, we are grateful as guests. We seek to support the varied strategies that the Indigenous peoples of Hawai‘i are using to protect their land and their communities, and we commit to dedicating time and resources to working in solidarity. Mahalo.
